Shawn Monahan Awarded Prestigious FCPA Designation

Bruce & Monahan is proud to announce that Shawn Monahan, CPA, CA has been awarded the distinguished Fellow (FCPA) designation by Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia.

The FCPA designation is the highest honour bestowed upon a CPA, recognizing members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, and contributions to the profession and their community. Shawn’s career is a shining example of those values in action.

As Partner at Bruce & Monahan since 2008, Shawn has built a reputation for visionary leadership, exceptional client service, and unwavering professional integrity. His clients consistently view him not just as an accountant, but as a trusted business advisor who brings clarity, strategic insight, and a personal commitment to their success.

Shawn’s impact extends beyond the office. Through his volunteer work with the CPA Nova Scotia Practice Inspection Committee and his dedication to mentoring the next generation of accountants, he has played a critical role in upholding and advancing the standards of the profession.

Shawn has also been a valuable contributor as a StFX alumni, serving as President of the StFX Alumni Association, followed by a term as Past President on the Association’s Council executive. Additionally, over many years, Shawn has demonstrated a meaningful contribution to the local community as Treasurer and then Vice-Chair and Chair of the Phoenix Youth Programs Charitable Foundation Board, as well as a long list of other accolades and voluntary contributions to several organizations.

As Shawn’s long-time business partner, David Bruce says:

“Shawn embodies everything the FCPA designation represents. His integrity, expertise, and care for his clients and colleagues set a high bar for excellence in our field. This honour is not only well-deserved — it’s a reflection of the deep respect he has earned throughout the business and professional community.”

Many others echo David’s sentiment, including Frank McKenna, Deputy Chair with TD Bank Group:

“Shawn’s commitment to professional development and ethical practice has had a ripple effect throughout the accounting community in Nova Scotia and beyond. He is known as a mentor to many, a thought leader in governance and auditing best practices, and a pillar of trust in financial circles.”

Under Shawn’s leadership, Bruce & Monahan has grown from a small practice to a thriving firm, serving clients across Nova Scotia. Many of the firm’s original clients remain with the firm today, a testament to the trust and long-term relationships Shawn has built over his career.

The entire team at Bruce & Monahan congratulates Shawn on this remarkable achievement and thanks CPA Nova Scotia for recognizing his contributions with this prestigious honour.
